Grunewald-Blitz Children's Clinic
The U of A Speech and Hearing Sciences Department was moved from its existing building to the old Business and Administration Building without a plan on how it would occupy the building. BWS Architects surveyed and assessed the new location to determine the best way to accommodate the user's needs. The process resulted in a building master plan and two projects – the Grunewald-Blitz Clinic for Communications Disorders in Children on the ground floor and Speech Phase I, which upgraded building mechanical and electrical systems, as well as functional modifications to accommodate programmatic needs.
The clinic offers hearing assessments, diagnosis and therapeutic regimes for children with hearing and speech disorders. Its bright interiors and secure outdoor play area make the treatment experience pleasant and non-threatening.
