Continental Family Medical Center
Pediatric Health Clinic Addition
The goal of this project was to consolidate the Children's Clinic with the existing Continental Family Medical Center west of Green Valley and in the process provide improved facilities and share services.
The existing 7,200-square-foot Medical Center, expressed in concrete block with a metal hip roof and clerestory, was sited to allow expansion to occur to the northeast. We met with Executive Director Dianna Gonzalez and the health care providers to confirm the program of space requirements for the new Pediatric Clinic, confirming what services could be shared and what needed to be discrete. The resulting program included a separate entrance and waiting area for the Pediatric Clinic, reception desk and record storage, supervisor's office, three provider offices, each with a nurse's station and three examination rooms, for a total of 3,100 gross square feet.
After exploring many options for the expansion, the plan that emerged was essentially an extrusion of the existing building form, repeating the same palette of materials. The internal circulation system completed the pattern established in the first building, locating each provider in close proximity to a nurse station and three examination rooms.
