Davidson Elementary School
Tucson Unified School District

L.E.E.D. CERTIFIED

Now in use for a year, Davidson Elementary is a popular hit with students and faculty. Each classroom has a roof window the length of the room and opens to the exterior of the building. All materials are chosen for durability and for their non-toxic, benign content. Solar panels provide 5% of the building’s power and reclaimed water irrigates the playfields. The school district has also used the school for a Green Cleaning pilot program – all materials used to clean the building are non-toxic and less harmful to students and workers. We have learned that absenteeism among the teachers alone has declined 50% over attendance at the now demolished mold-ridden school.

The Library and Multipurpose Room provide meeting space for the kids and for the local community. Coming soon – a park next door to the school, to be maintained by the students. It will have hummingbird gardens, Native American vegetable gardens, composting areas, shady armadas, and other learning features for the kids and neighborhood.
