Naranja Town Site
The Town of Oro Valley is a relatively new and fast growing community north of Tucson and is starting to build community facilities for its population. To provide a central gathering space – a hub – for the town, the new Community Center will provide safe, clean, sustainable and accessible facilities, including a gymnasium, weight and fitness areas, aerobics and dance studios, climbing walls, and various classrooms, therapy pool, and administration space. Site development will include soccer and baseball/softball fields, park and picnic area, hiking, and a dog park. The Community Center will also include a theater with a 500 seat auditorium and full support facilities. Also planned is a Music Pavilion with 1,100 covered seats and lawn seating for 2000. The building will be designed to eventually be enclosed, but can be opened in good weather. A support building with concession, restrooms, and box office will be built nearby.
The project is anticipated to be approximately 191,000 square feet and will attempt to achieve LEED Silver certification. BWS Architects has completed the programming and Concept Design for the project and the Town is now considering funding and phasing options.
