Dave Burns AIA LEED AP
Design Principal
As a serious student of Arizona’s culture and climate, Dave’s architecture expresses strong regional qualities. He manipulates form and shade for visual interest and environmental response. He selects systems, materials and colors that are sustainable and appropriate to the Southwest. For more than 30 years, Dave has espoused an integrated approach to design that combines function, beauty and the environment. He is a LEED-accredited professional and designed the first LEED-certified building in Arizona.
The 2006 Arizona Architects Medal has been awarded to Dave Burns, AIA, Design Principal of BWS Architects, for recognizing his “commitment to advancing the profession of architecture by not only advocating for the best architectural design, but also for achieving it in a socially responsible manner.” Dave was nominated for the award by the local Southern Arizona Chapter of the AIA for his leadership in promoting “design excellence, environmentally responsible design and resource conservation” as well as his volunteer service on community boards, committees, and resource conservation initiatives.
